アルトー・ビーツのフライヤーのひみつ

アルトー・ビーツのフライヤー最終版できました。
フライヤーというものに非常に消極的な私を神戸の倉本さんが救ってくださいまして、
印刷してくださって、もうすぐ各地の会場またはオーガナイザーあてに送って下さいます。

Mr Kuramoto in Kobe helped me a lot...he printed and will send out the venues and organisers very soon!







実はこれ、私のイラストデビューです。
ひょうたんから駒です。

In fact, this is my first illustration shown in public.


なぜかというと、印刷の条件が「白黒のみで、ベタは紙詰まりの原因になるので避けること、グレースケールもベタとして表現されてしまうので避ける」ということで、最初、関西エリアフライヤーの時は字だけでやったんですけど、何人かの人に「字だけなんですね」って言われてしまって。

Mr Kuramoto told me that it would be in black & white printing, and avoid solid black area as it would cause paper jam, also greyscale should be avoided as it would be printed as solid black. So when we did Kansai area only flyer, I only used text, but several people commented that 'it is only text'...

でも写真は絶対ダメだし、そこで最初考えたのが、フォトショップで写真の輪郭だけ線画でとってみる、っていうの。でもこれがぜんぜんさまにならない。その人の特徴をあらわす線もどうでもいい線も平等に拾っちゃうのね。だからといってマニュアルで行こうっていっても、私のマウスさばきもいまいちだし。

But I couldn't use photos if greyscale was no good. So I initially thought it might work if I used Photoshop and picked up outlines of photos as black & white line drawing. But it did not work, as Photoshop picked up equally both the characteristic lines of the person as well as lines which were not anything special. I thought I could draw on the computer screen, but my mouse technique was not good enough.

それで、この際、いったんプリントアウトして、トレーシングペーパー乗せて、その上から筆ペンでトレースしてみたらどうだろう、と思って、せっかくだからビデオをコマ送りにして、いちばん特徴の出るコマをスティルにして、それをプリントアウトした。
ジェフのは、りえさんが撮った写真がすごく特徴つかんでるので、それをそのまま使った。
手描きトレースしたのをスキャンしてフォトショップに戻し、レイアウトしました。

Then I had an idea: printing out the photos, then placing a piece of tracing paper, then tracing the photos with a Fude-pen (Japanese brush pen). I created stills from video which represented characteristic movements of each member. I used photo taken by Rie Miyazaki for Geoff, as it already captured his characteristic posture.
I scanned the resulting illustrations, then put them back to Photoshop, and worked on the layout.

そしたら何やら評判がよくってびっくりなんです。

It has been a pleasant surprise that a lot of people said the illustration was amazing!

白黒でグレースケールなし、っていう条件がなかったら、私、描いてなかったです。
制限はクリエイティヴィティの母ですね！

I would not have drawn the illustrations if there was not the restriction for the printing!
Restriction is mother of creativity!!
